Nash Broadband

Nash is a small village only 5 miles from Milton Keynes and 50 miles from London. As far as BT is concerned, however, it is as remote as a hamlet in the Welsh mountains. There's no provision of high-speed Internet access, either in the form of ISDN or ADSL.

In January 2004, a meeting was held at Nash village hall to look at how we could get broadband Internet provided. A working party was set up which looked at many possibilities. It turned out that any copper-based solution (i.e. using ordinary telephone lines) was not feasible because Nash is too far away from its telephone exchange at Shenley Church End. This rules out all special offers from Yahoo, Wanadoo, BT, NTL, AOL, etc. - in fact any copper-based Internet service provider.

The broadband service is now provided by a local company, Village Networks.

Statement from Paul Firth, director of Village Networks:

Village Networks has been selected to provide a new wireless service to Nash. We currently operate fast reliable wireless broadband service to communities in north Buckinghamshire including the Claydons, Hoggeston, Goddington, Poundon, Calvert Green, Marsh Gibbon, Twyford and Wing.

We are a locally based company with an established reputation for delivering wireless broadband service for over four years. During this time we have invested in the latest technology and equipment to establish a fast, reliable network to our customers. In addition we provide wide area high speed wireless connections for Buckinghamshire County Council. Most importantly we have systems that monitor the performance of the network so that we can identify, quickly pinpoint and resolve any problems in the network.

We have plans to implement a ground based wireless broadband service for Nash. To do this we will provide connection from ‘nodes’ (similar to those already in operation) directly to your house. We will bring the main supply (‘backhaul’) from our existing network to feed the nodes. We will install new infrastructure that will be faster, more reliable and able to be monitored 24/7 using our established systems.

This is a land based service; email, web-browsing, file transfers all go directly to the internet, and services requiring low ‘latency’ (length of time to transmit the information) including video conferencing and Voice over IP will perform well over this system.

Our charges will be £185 installation and £29.50 per month service charge. Web space, emails addresses and customer support are all included.

If you are currently a subscriber to the existing network and sign up to our service within the first month of operation we will reduce the installation charge to £99.

We look forward to giving all residents of Nash access to wireless broadband services, enabling you to work, play and be entertained at super-fast broadband speeds.
